A woman was rescued and arrested Saturday after driving while intoxicated into the Anacostia River, authorities say.
The driver was identified as Ebony Smith, 34.
D.C. Fire and EMS were called to the 1300 block of Canal Street and #3 Tingey Street in Southeast, D.C Saturday morning for reports of an overturned car in the Anacostia River. The incident occurred in the area of DC Water's headquarters in Navy Yard.

Rescue personnel used a ladder to remove Smith from the water. She had removed herself from the vehicle, and was standing in shallow water next to a sea wall when authorities arrived, D.C. Fire tweeted.
In video and photos, rescue crews can be seen removing the upside down car from the river.
Smith was arrested at the scene and charged with a DUI, according to DC police arrest reports.
