NBC Universal, Inc. A man is charged with murder, accused of intentionally running down his wife with their car. News4’s Shomari Stone reports.

A woman died and her husband is in custody after police say he intentionally ran her over with an SUV Friday outside a bank in the Colesville area of Montgomery County, Maryland.

Alka Himanshu Tanna, 59, walked out of the Capital One bank in the 13300 block of New Hampshire Avenue and was about to cross the parking lot when her husband, 59-year-old Himanshu Maganlal Tanna, mowed her down, slammed into a pillar, then hit her again, police said.

“As she was leaving the bank, the husband was driving the white SUV. He drove toward her and intentionally struck her,” police spokesperson Shiera Goff said.

Himanshu Tanna also crashed the white Lexus SUV into a lamp post, which could be seen leaning at an angle later Friday. The white SUV was still there.

Harriet McCombs was inside the bank when she heard a loud bang.

“One of the bank employees called 911 and tried to describe what was happening,” she said.

Police were called to the scene at about 11:45 a.m. Alka Tanna was pronounced dead, and police took Himanshu Tanna into custody.

Officers interviewed Himanshu Tanna and charged him with first-degree murder.

Alka and Himanshu had gone to the bank in separate vehicles, Goff said.

An investigation is underway. Tanna is cooperating with investigators, police said. A motive hasn't been established.

"It’s tragic to know that the situation got to that point," Goff said.
