A decades-long fixture in the Washington restaurant business died at age 86 Wednesday.
Annie Kaylor was the namesake and longtime bartender and night manager at Annie's Paramount Steakhouse on 17th Street in the Dupont Circle area.
The restaurant started in 1948 as "a beer joint" opened by Kaylor's brother George Katinas, according to the restaurant website. Kaylor and her sister, Sue Stouts, joined him.
Annie's was among the first in the city to stay open all night and offer weekend brunch.
Customers tell The Washington Blade they remember Kaylor most for the welcoming atmosphere she helped create for all people and especially those in the LGBT community.
