In a statement released Wednesday, U.S. Secret Service Spokesperson Steve Kopek said the driver struck a security bollard at a White House checkpoint and the actions "were not targeted towards the White House Complex.”
The driver was identified as Roy Bowden, 48. Kopek said he was arrested for driving under the influence and unlawful entry.
There was increased security around the White House Tuesday while the cause of the crash was investigated.
It's not the first time there was a crash involving security barriers near the White House.
Two juveniles were injured in May 2022 after crashing a stolen car into a concrete security barrier at the western side of the White House grounds, the Secret Service said.
