The University of Mary Washington in Virginia is hosting a day of professional development and "personal enrichment" for federal employees who have been furloughed during the partial government shutdown.
The university has invited all workers affected by the shutdown to a free program Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on its Stafford campus.
Faculty will join administrators to offer leadership lessons, workplace tutorials and a free brown-bag networking lunch.
Workshop options include Intro to 3D Design and 3D Printing, Succeeding in a Multi-Generational Workplace and Intro to Computer Programming.
Some of the topics to be discussed include developing personal leadership philosophies, improving professional performance and discovering ways to engage audiences.
