Mother, Daughter Killed in Fiery Crash

A 6-year-old girl and her mother were killed in a car accident late Tuesday

Richard Jordan reports on a fatal crash in Fairfax, Va. A mother and her young daughter were killed. Police said speed was a factor.

A fiery crash in Fairfax City killed a mother and daughter, and left another daughter and man in critical condition, according to Fairfax City Police.

Police say that a Honda Civic carrying Dejon L'Air Williams, 27, and her two daughters was traveling east on Lee Highway just before 11 p.m. on Tuesday. That vehicle then sideswiped another vehicle on Lee Highway and then hit a minivan near Jermantown Road, according to Fairfax City police. The driver of that van, a 38-year-old male, had to be rescued and was eventually pulled out of his van. The accident ended when the Civic hit a median, knocked over a sign and came to rest in the eastbound lanes of Lee Highway.

Williams and her 6-year-old daughter Faith were pronounced dead at the hospital. Williams's other daughter, 8-year-old Victoria, had to be cut out of wreck along with her sister and mother. She and the driver of the Honda van are said to be in critical condition.

Faith was wearing a seat belt, police said, but she was not in a proper booster seat for her size and age. Wednesday would have been her last day of kindergarten.

Investigators ruled excessive speed as the cause of the accident. Police said the car was seen weaving through traffic and greatly exceeding the 35 mph speed limit.
