Thousands of Power Outages Reported Due to Wet, Heavy Snow

A mix of snow and sleet with strong winds is knocking out power in some parts of the D.C. area. News4’s David Culver checked in with Dominion Virginia Power.

Wet, heavy snow and freezing rain fell on the D.C. area Monday night and Tuesday morning, leading to thousands of power outages across the region.

About 3 p.m., the following outage totals were reported:

Pepco (outage map):

  • District of Columbia: 55
  • Prince George's County: 4,050

Dominion Virginia (outage map):

  • Northern Virginia (mostly in Fauquier and King George counties, with 71 outages in Alexandria and 25 in Fairfax County): 1,598

SMECO (outage map):

  • Calvert County: 44
  • Charles County: 2,765 
  • Prince George's County: 1,080
  • St. Mary's County: 215
