Suspects Arrested in Shooting Near Dunbar High School in DC

Two suspects have been arrested in connection to a shooting in northwest D.C., police said.

D.C. police said two men were shot Thursday in the 400 block of N Street NW was near Dunbar High School and Fire Station 6.

On Friday, 25-year-old Antoine Woods and 27-year-old Anthony Tyrone Sparks were arrested and charged with assault with intent to kill.

Several people were in the area when shots were fired before 5 p.m., including students and parents holding young children, News4's Shomari Stone reports. They ran for cover in a parking lot as at least 53 shots were fired.

“There’s a bunch of young kids out here, and that’s type of thing that we’ve got to put an end to in the District is having these folks who think that they can discharge these illegal firearms in our community,” Police Chief Pete Newsham said. “One of the great things about walking through here is that the folks out here are more than willing to help. They’re sick and tired of this kind of thing happening in their community as well.”

Suspects fled in a gray Saturn and crashed three blocks away by the Masjid Muhammad Mosque. Three people ran from the car.

Both men were conscious and breathing. One is expected to survive, but the other is in critical condition, police said.

Police are investigating whether this shooting is connected to the shooting of three people nearby on M Street after 9 p.m. Wednesday.
