Suspect Declared Mentally Incompetent in Fatal Shooting of Virginia Trooper Junius Walker

A Chesterfield County man has been declared mentally incompetent to stand trial for the fatal shooting of Virginia state trooper Junius A. Walker.

A Dinwiddie County judge ordered Russell E. Brown II, 28, sent to a state mental hospital for treatment in an effort to restore his competency for trial, The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported.

Brown faces eight felony counts, including capital murder, in Walker's death in March 2013.

Walker, 63,was fatally shot in his police cruiser on Interstate 85 after stopping to see if Brown needed help. Brown told police that God told him to shoot Walker, a master trooper.

Nearly 3,000 people attended Walker's funeral, which drew police officers from as far away as Alaska.
