Police arrested a suspect in the death of a man whose body was found by a relative inside a Silver Spring, Maryland, townhouse during a welfare check last week, Montgomery County police said.
Officers went to the home in the 14600 block of King Lear Court after 3:30 p.m. Dec. 23 after receiving a call from the homeowner's relative.
"A family member believed [the deceased] was either dead or severely injured," Capt. Paul Starks with Montgomery County Police said.
Oscar Uriel Navarro, 36, suffered trauma to his upper body, police said. The medical examiner ruled the death a homicide caused by "sharp force injuries," police said.
Investigators determined a bloody palmprint at the scene belonged to 22-year-old Mauricio Morales-Caceres. He was arrested about 11:30 a.m. Sunday and charged him with first-degree murder.
Navarro and Morales-Caceres were acquaintances, police said.
