Surveillance Video Shows Slain DC Housing Authority Employee Running for His Life

As D.C. police launch a new crime initiative for the fall, they are investigating six homicides since Tuesday. Jackie Bensen reports.

Dramatic surveillance video shows a DC Housing Authority employee shot to death during his lunch break Thursday in Southeast D.C. tried to run from the gunman.

Marcus Williams, 36, of Southeast D.C. was in his car with the front passenger door open in the 1200 block of I Street SE, near the Potomac Gardens public housing complex, when the gunman approached, pointing his weapon at Williams.

Video shows Williams getting out of the car with his hands up before he runs around the front of the car away from the gunman and back down the street.

The gunman follows with the gun pointing at Williams.

Officers responded about 12:45 p.m. and found Williams shot in the chest, police said. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Williams frequently worked at the Potomac Gardens complex, according to residents.

The shooter ran into the housing complex, police said.
