A small plane crashed near Tipton Airport in Anne Arundel County, injuring two people.
The Federal Aviation Administration said a Grumman American AA-1 plane went down in the woods near the runway Sunday afternoon shortly after takeoff at 2 p.m. Sunday. The plane was discovered on its side and leaking fuel.
The Anne Arundel County Fire Department said the two people onboard were injured. Both men were momentarily trapped before emergency crews could get them out.
Late Sunday, they were identified as pilot Jeffry P. Barnett, 57, of Glen Burnie, and Thomas L. Cline, 82, of Silver Spring.
Both were taken from the scene via Maryland State Police helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma unit in Baltimore.
The National Transportation Safety Board will determine the cause of the crash.
