Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit by School Bus in Derwood

A woman is in critical condition after being struck by a school bus in Derwood on Thursday morning.

A Gaithersburg resident has died after being hit by a school bus driver Thursday morning.

School bus attendant Crucita Reynoso, 58, died Thursday after she was struck by the bus in Derwood about 9 a.m., according to the Montgomery County Police Department.

Reynoso was hit less than a mile from where she worked, near the intersection of Crabbs Branch Way and Redland Road as she crossed Crabbs Branch Way. The school bus driver was making a left turn, police said.

Reynoso was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. No children were on the school bus at the time of the crash, police said.

School officials said in an update Friday that the tragedy has hit school employees hard, particularly because the victim and driver knew each other.

No charges have been filed against the driver.

Anyone who witnessed the crash and has not spoken to detectives is asked to call 240-773-6620 or 301-279-8000.
