Ron Rivera says Alex Smith is Washington's starting QB once healthy originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
Alex Smith will be Washington's starting quarterback moving forward once he's healthy to return, head coach Ron Rivera said on Sunday after the team's 20-15 loss to Seattle.
"Alex Smith is our starting quarterback right now," Rivera said. "If he's healthy and ready to roll, he will. If not, Dwayne [Haskins] will be our starting quarterback."
Smith missed Washington's game on Sunday with a calf strain he suffered last week against San Francisco. Smith had started Washington's previous five games, four of which ended in Washington victories.
"It's one of those things where we have a set depth chart right now," Rivera said. "Again, this is by health. And if Alex is healthy, he'll start."

Second-year quarterback Dwayne Haskins made his fifth start for Washington this season in Smith's place. Haskins finished 38-of-55 for 295 yards and a touchdown but threw two costly interceptions.
Despite the loss, Washington will still be tied for first place in the NFC East heading into Week 16, and will remain in sole possession of the division lead if the Giants fall to Cleveland on Sunday evening.
