Businesses Collect for Reward to Solve Ron Kirby Slaying

The family and coworkers of local transportation official hopes a new reward fund will help generate tips and bring the killer to justice in the murder of Ron Kirby.

Local business owners are collecting money to establish a reward fund to solve the murder of a prominent local transportation official.

Ron Kirby, 69, was shot and killed in his home Nov. 11. He was director of the department of transportation planning for the Council of Governments, an interstate association that helps counties around D.C. with development, growth and transportation planning.

The Del Ray Business Foundation says it established the reward fund "as a service to the City of Alexandria and residents of the entire region who held Ron in high regard."

They are seeking donations for the fund. They did not say how much they had collected, but said it was "several thousand" dollars.

"Ron greatly expanded the influence of transportation planning in the national capital region, and was a distinguished neighbor and colleague, as well as a husband and father," the business foundation said in a statement.
