Three people are hurt after gunfire flew into a home and hit a 14-year-old girl and a woman, plus hit a man outside, in District Heights, Maryland, on Friday afternoon, police said.
The teenager is in a hospital in critical condition.
“That was a 14-year-old girl, and she didn’t deserve this, and in a blink of an eye, her life has been transformed forever,” Vice Mayor Xander Harcourt said. “And she’s somebody’s child.”
News4 spotted at least 20 shell casings in the street. A single bullet went through a second-floor window, striking the girl and the woman.

The shooting occurred on Atwood Street, south of Walker Mill Road. Prince George’s County police and medics arrived to the 6600 block of Atwood Street shortly before 2 p.m. and found the victims, police said. A police spokesman said three people had been shot.
“I walk over there and just look at him. All of his buddies right there, and they were saying a car pulled up and started shooting,” said a neighbor who remained anonymous.
“We all know that things can happen at the drop of a hat, but we also know that this is where we live, and we have to protect where we live, and we have to be encouraged about the safety,” District Heights Mayor Cynthia Miller said. “We can’t be afraid to go out; we have to be strong about our community and getting involved and letting people know crime does not live here.”
