Two women claiming they were sold for sex on Craigslist asked the website's founder to end the adult services section.
The women, identifying themselves as "AK" and "MC," detailed their alleged ordeals in an ad in Friday's Washington Post.
Craigslist currently has about 50 million American users, and the adult services section is the most popular. Police and anti-trafficking advocates say the site has become the preferred site for online sex trafficking.
All ads are manually screened, and any suspicious activity is reported to law enforcement, a Craigslist spokesperson said.
