You can take your four-legged friends to dog parks in Arlington County, of course. But soon you may have to leave your children at home.
According to the Washington Examiner, the Arlington County Parks Department is considering imposing a ban on small children at dog parks.
Under the proposed plan, children 8 years old and younger would not be able to go inside the eight dog parks in the county. Children between ages 8 and 14 would require supervision.
Safety is the reason behind this proposal. According to the Examiner, the parks department is trying to prevent attacks on small children by dogs.
There will be a chance for public comment before this becomes a rule.
Currently, Arlington rules and regulations say that "parents must be in control of their children at all times in a community canine area."
In the District, an adult must closely supervise all children under the age of 16.
