Police: Rappers Rob Studio After Recording a Song

News4’s Pat Collins reports on an unusual robbery at a Maryland recording studio.

A rap song may be the biggest clue in an early morning robbery in Maryland.

Laurel police are looking for a pair of rappers who allegedly robbed a recording studio after a session.

About 1 a.m. Thursday, two men dropped by Copy Catz to lay down “Larry Hoover” – dedicated to famous Chicago gangster King Larry.

When the rap was wrapped, the rappers left the studio and walked out of the building while everybody else got ready to leave, but the rappers quickly returned – with guns. They ordered everyone to sit on the sofa and started demanding valuables.

“Our priority is to make a safe environment for artists,” said Copy Catz General Manager Carlos Garcia, who was not at the studio at the time. “That’s our No. 1 priority, and we didn’t do it this time and we just have to make sure protocols are followed. Staff that can’t follow protocols can’t be staff anymore.”

The recording is the Laurel Police Department’s biggest clue.

“What we’re looking for is the voice recognition,” Laurel police spokesman Pete Piringer said. “Maybe someone will recognize their voices or know this tune or know who these fellas are.”
