Police Investigate Shooting Death in Alexandria

Few murders in past 2 years

Alexandria police are investigating their first homicide of the year, a 40-year-old man shot along Wythe Street.

Police in Alexandria are investigating a suspicious overnight death as a homicide.  This would be the first murder of the year for the city.

Officers said the victim, Bob Cory McNeely, 40, of Alexandria City, was discovered on the 1200 block of Wythe Street at 10 a.m. on Thursday.  The victim died from gunshot wounds on the scene.

On Friday morning, police did not have any word on a motive or suspects.

In 2010, Alexandria police recorded two homicides, and five in 2009.
