Police Believe Peeping Suspect May Have Recorded Victims on His Phone

Northern Virginia Bureau Chief Julie Carey reports on a man arrested for allegedly peeping and perhaps photographing through windows in Merrifield.

Fairfax County police discovered an alarming, new variation on the crime of window peeping, which came to light with a recent arrest at a Merrifield area apartment complex. The man accused may have been videotaping or photographing as he was peeping.

A resident reported a man peering through sliding glass doors March 31, police said. Responding officers caught the man crouched by a window and noticed he had a cellphone.

Police obtained a search warrant to look through 26-year-old Jose Reyes Hernandez’s phone because they suspect, in addition to peeping, Hernandez was taking pictures of or videotaping his victims.

Hernandez was living in the apartment complex when he was arrested. He's out of jail now but couldn’t be located for comment Tuesday.

The apartment complex manager said she was unaware of the arrest.
