Cops: Cal Ripken's Mom Victim of Attempted Carjacking

A 33-year-old man has been arrested and charged for allegedly trying to carjack the mother of baseball legend Cal Ripken, Jr. Tuesday.

Vi Ripken was in the parking lot of a bank on Post Road in Aberdeen, Md. Tuesday around 3 p.m. when a man with a gun approached her and told her he wanted her car, authorities said.

Ripken activated her car's panic alarm and the man fled the area, only to be caught a short time later.

Police have identified the suspect as Jesse A. Bowen of Havre de Grace, Md.

He has been charged with attempted armed robbery, attempted armed carjacking, possessing a dangerous weapon, first-degree assault and several controlled substance-related charges.

He is currently being held without bond at the Hartford County Detention Center.

This is not the first time Cal Ripken's mother has fallen victim to a crime. Last year, she was blindfolded and driven around for nearly 24 hours before she was found unharmed in her car. Cal
