Parking at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda can be a challenge. Now, it's getting a little easier for veterans who go there for treatment but can't find a parking space.
Over the past two weeks, military officers have been patrolling the garage entrance to stop employees who take the parking spots set aside for wounded warriors.
According to a WTOP.com report, the effort is working. Since the patrols began, more slots have been available for patients.
The lack of parking became a big issue in 2011, when 2,000 employees from the now closed Walter Reed hospital in northwest D.C. were reassigned to the Bethesda campus. There are plans to add more spaces over the next five-to-10 years.
The patrols are expected to continue through early April.
