Overturned Truck Delays Traffic on Route 50 in Bowie

A tanker truck overturned on Route 50 in Bowie during the evening commute. News4’s Derrick Ward reports.

A driver was stuck inside the cab of a tanker truck after it overturned on Route 50 near Freeway Airport in Bowie, Md., Monday evening.

The driver suffered an unknown medical condition and left the roadway before striking the concrete jersey barrier in the median, causing the truck to overturn, according to the initial investigation by Maryland State Police.

After the driver was freed, he was taken to Prince George's Hospital Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The HOV lanes and fast lanes in both directions will be closed for several hours while crews unload material from the tanker truck on to another truck.

The tanker was carrying a non-toxic irritant used in manufacturing nylon.
