Overnight assault draws large police presence to Bethesda home, suspect in custody

A suspect is in custody for an assault in Bethesda, Maryland. News4’s Juliana Valencia reports.

A 24-year-old man is in custody for allegedly assaulting his parents late Sunday night in Bethesda, Maryland, police say.

The domestic-related assault happened inside a home in the 6500 block of Greentree Road just before midnight, according to the Montgomery County Department of Police.

According to the initial investigation, during a dispute between 24-year-old Joseph Michael Bowers and his parents, Bowers allegedly stabbed his parents with a knife when the argument escalated.

The parents were taken to the hospital with serious injuries but are expected to survive.

There was a large police presence at the scene overnight that included a drone and the Montgomery County special response team. At least one officer was pointing a gun toward the home.

Police took Bowers into custody at his parents home after 5 a.m. Monday, police said. He is charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and weapons charges.
