A man was shot and killed in the garage at Union Station Monday afternoon. News4’s Walter Morris reports.

A man was shot and killed at the Union Station parking garage Monday just before 5 p.m.

The shooter fled the scene, and police say that it was not an active shooter situation.

The shooting took place outside near the escalator leading to the parking garage, according to an Amtrak spokesperson. Police initially said it occurred inside the station.

The victim ran inside, collapsed and fell down the escalator, police said. First responders performed CPR at the scene.

That area leading to the parking garage is still blocked off.

While it's still early in the investigation, it seems that the shooter and the victim had a conversation and walked together before the violent confrontation, according the Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith. She added that video footage shows the victim taking something off the shooter's person.

There has been no information about possible motive, but MPD Chief Pamela Smith said they do not believe the shooting was random.

Police are now working to pull clear images of the suspect.
