A New Jersey man has been arrested in a Stafford, Va., drug bust that led to the seizure of more than four pounds of heroin.
The drugs have a street value of $270,000.
Steve Carrington Durham, Jr., was arrested earlier this month, the Stafford County Sheriff's Office announced Friday. Durham, 28, of Brick, N.J., has been charged with possession with intent to distribute a Schedule I or II narcotic.
He is being held without bond.
Authorities said the investigation began when they heard about a large shipment of heroin schedued to be picked up in Stafford County and delivered south of the Fredericksburg region. They pulled over Durham on the night of May 8 in the Courthouse Road area of Stafford and, with the help of a K-9 unit, found the heroin in his trunk, they said.
Stafford County authorities said the investigation is going and additional charges are likely. Members of the Drug Enforcement Administration and other local authorities are also involved.
Durham had been out on bond for a similar offense that occurred in New Jersey for about a week before his Stafford County arrest, police said.
