Metro's second-in-command has resigned.
New Metro General Manager and CEO Paul J. Wiedefeld released an internal memo Thursday saying he accepted the resignation of Deputy General Manager of Operations Rob Troup.

Wiedefeld assigned Assistant General Manager of Transit Infrastructure and Engineering Services Andy Off to replace Troup.
Troup was in charge of many large infrastructure projects with the transit agency, including the massive rebuilding effort and bringing in those new 7000 series railcars.
But there have been numerous problems.
This marks the first major departure at Metro since Wiedefeld took over and signals a new thought process for the agency. Wiedefeld was just officially appointed GM and CEO in November. Then last month, Metro's Board of Directors elected D.C. Council member Jack Evans its new chairman. Soon the agency will have a new chief safety officer following James Dougherty's resignation in September.
