Metro Reducing Number of Cars Per Train Due to Shutdown

Metro is reducing the number of cars per train due to the government shutdown, the transit agency announced Wedesday.

With thousands of federal workers furloughed in the D.C. area, Metrorail has seen a 22-percent drop in ridership. Eight-car trains will be converted to six-car trains until further notice, Metro announced on Twitter.

Trains will continue to run on their normal weekday schedules.

Metro's not the only transit system to take a hit. Two MARC trains were canceled Tuesday due to the shutdown.
