Metro Announces Free Parking at 3 Stations During Summer Construction

Metro announced Thursday it will offer free parking at the Huntington, Franconia-Springfield and Van Dorn Street stations while the Platform Improvement Project is underway this summer.

Metro said they want to provide an additional incentive for riders to use Metro’s free shuttle buses or other alternative transportation options.

“This is another way of encouraging customers to stick with us during the essential construction work taking place this summer,” said Paul J. Wiedefeld, Metro General Manager and CEO. “In addition to free parking at these stations, customers can take advantage of express shuttle service to the Pentagon and conveniently transfer to the rail system.”

These three stations are part of the six Blue and Yellow line stations south of Reagan National Airport that are scheduled to be closed from Saturday, May 25, through Sunday, Sept. 8, as part of the reconstruction process.

The other three stations — Eisenhower Ave, King St-Old Town and Braddock Road — do not have Metro parking facilities.

Parking at these stations typically costs around $5 per day. The free parking incentive could save a regular commuter $500 in parking fees this summer, Metro said.
