CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Metallica cares about its fans.
The legendary heavy metal band is offering $50,000 for information in the search for a Virginia Tech student last seen at their Oct. 17 concert at the University of Virginia, InsideNoVA.com reported. That brings the total to $150,000. Virginia State Police announced Monday that Jefferson Area Crime Stoppers is offering $100,000 for information.
Police hope the reward will help generate new leads in the search for 20-year-old Morgan Dana Harrington, of Roanoke. Metallica also posted a message on the band's Web site asking people to look for her and call in any tips.
The amount of the reward could grow. State police spokeswoman Corinne Geller says details of a donation from Metallica are still being worked out.
Investigators are continuing to pursue tips about Harrington, who became separated from her friends when she left the arena, police said.
State troopers passed out fliers in the area of John Paul Jones Arena Saturday, InsideNoVA.com reported. Nothing significant came of it. Harrington's photo also was shown on the big screen at the University of Virginia's football game.
