Memorial Service Held for Teen Killed in Bike Crash

Jacob Cassell was riding a bike on a sidewalk when he lost his balance and fell into the roadway, his parents say

A memorial service was held Friday for a teenage boy who was fatally struck by an SUV while he was riding a bicycle in Bethesda last week.

The service for Jacob Cassell took place at 2 p.m. at Churchill High School, where the 17-year-old was a student.

Cassell's parents say the boy was riding a bike on a sidewalk last Wednesday, maneuvering through objects blocking his path, when he lost his balance and fell in the way of an oncoming SUV.

"It was just a complete cluster of an obstacle course, and he just lost his balance," Cassell's father, Steve Cassell, said.

Cassell was taken to the hospital, where he died of his injuries.
