Md. Judge Rejects Request to Increase Fines for Passing Stopped School Buses

A Maryland judge rejected Montgomery County's request to increase fines for drivers who illegally drive past stopped school buses.

County leaders said violations are too frequent -- hundreds reported over the course of just one school day.

Maryland's chief judge officially notified the county that only the legislature can change the $125 fines. The courts won't do so.
