Residents of a Virginia trailer park hope to get more time to vacate their homes after suddenly being told to move out.
In August 2016, residents of the East End Mobile home park in Manassas were notified they would have to move out by the end of February. The property that houses the trailer park has a failing private sewer system that feeds into the city sewer, so the city of Manassas will purchase the land.
The city plans to repair the faulty sewer system after everyone moves out.
Manassas city officials are pushing for the current property owner to allow families with children to stay until the end of the school year. City officials said the current owner of the property will select a move-out deadline, not the city.
The Save Our Homes Alliance, a nonprofit organization, has stepped forward to help residents stay.
