Man Shot While Dropping Child Off at DC School

Teachers and staff at a DC charter school are getting praise tonight for how they handled a shooting just outside their doors. News4’s Jackie Bensen reports.

A man who walked into a Northeast Washington charter school after he was shot was dropping a child off at the school, police said.

The victim and his girlfriend were dropping a child off at Harmony Public Charter School on T Street, Northeast, at 8:30 a.m. Monday. Police said the victim waited in his car, while the woman and child entered the school.

As the victim waited for his girlfriend to return, a gold-colored Lexus pulled up beside his car. Investigators said the driver of the Lexus rolled down his window and fired several shots into the victim's car.

Police said the injured man then ran into the school for help.

A woman who lives in the area told News4 she heard the barrage of shots.

"I was sitting in my dining area, and I heard about six shots," the woman, who asked to not be identified, said.

Police said the man was shot in the arm and has a graze wound to the stomach. He is expected to be OK.
