Two men are dead after they were found shot a block apart in Northwest D.C. on Saturday night, police say.
D.C. police officers were called to the 1400 block of Girard Street NW at about 10 p.m. and found that a man had been shot. The location is in the Columbia Heights neighborhood, near 14th Street NW.
A short time later, officers were called behind the 1400 block of Fairmont Street NW, where a second man was found shot. The location is about a two-minute walk from the first location.

DC Fire and EMS tried to save the men, but they both died of their injuries. Officers initially said one victim had died and the other was hospitalized with serious injuries.
In an update, police said the victims were Luke Whitaker, of Northwest D.C., and Zion Hollingsworth-Hayes, of Silver Spring, Maryland. Whitaker was 29. Hollingsworth-Hayes was just 19.
The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with potentially relevant information is asked to contact police.
