Man Detained After Montgomery College Students Report Shooting Threat

School: Student upset about relationship

Police took a 19-year-old Montgomery College student in for questioning after he allegedly threatened to open fire on the Rockville campus. News4’s Pat Collins reports.

Police detained a man for questioning after students reported he threatened to shoot others at the Montgomery College Rockville campus Monday afternoon.

Other students reported the threats from a 19-year-old student to campus security, who contacted Rockville police. The man was found eating lunch.

He was upset about a relationship that fell apart, according to a school spokesperson.

"The security incident notification said that he felt like shooting people just for fun," said Elizabeth Homan of Montgomery College.

Police have not found a weapon, and no one was hurt.

The campus was not locked down, nor was an alert deemed necessary.

"This was not an active incident," Homan said. "This was a concerned, generalized statement that somebody made, but it was of concern, and so our security office ... the protocol that they were following was to contact police, work in partnership with police and find the student and identify the student as quickly as possible."
