A man accused of shooting his partner after a domestic argument in Montgomery County, Maryland, has been charged with first-degree murder.

Alejandro Jose Perez de Leon, 48, of Kensington, is accused of shooting and killing 33-year-old Silvia Elenia Fernandez at their home at 10724 Shaftsbury St. on Tuesday night.

Montgomery County police said officers responded to a call reporting a shooting at about 9:59 p.m. and discovered a deceased adult woman at the home.

Officers identified Perez de Leon, who had stayed at the scene, as the suspect and arrested him.

Police also recovered a handgun at the home.

A preliminary investigation suggests that Fernandez and Perez de Leon were involved in a domestic dispute when he shot her.

Court documents show that a neighbor called police after hearing arguing, a woman's scream and several gunshots.

Then, the neighbor told the police that his father received a call from Perez de Leon, who said he had shot Fernandez, the documents show.

Police ask for anyone with additional information to call 240-773-5070.
