One Marine is dead and another is in police custody after a fatal stabbing in Barracks Row early Saturday morning.
20-year-old Michael Joseph Poth of Southeast was arrested and charged with murder 2 while armed in the death of 23-year-old Philip Bushong of Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Investigators say the killing stemmed from an altercation which occurred in the 700 block of 8th Street Southeast, about two blocks south of the Eastern Market Metro station, at around 2:30 a.m. Bushong was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
D.C. police tell News4's Darcy Spencer that Poth made a homophobic remark during the altercation that preceeded the stabbing, though it was not immediate clear if this was the altercation's specific cause.
