Search warrant documents obtained by News4 provide new details about a recent series of bold, daytime home break-ins in Reston.
Fairfax County police arrested 26-year-old Daniel Stanley Nov. 18 and charged him with 6 counts of burglary and one count of possession of stolen property.
But a search warrant affidavit says investigators believe Stanley may be responsible for as many as 16 break-ins between mid-August and November.
Court documents show Stanley was targeting homes and apartments near his girlfriend's home.
"It is unusual to have someone preying on the home next door or a home nearby in your neighborhood," Fairfax County Police Spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell said.
Residents in Reston neighborhoods off Wiehle Avenue near North Shore Drive have been on guard since word of the burglaries spread.
"The neighbors told me there was a break in and I was very much concerned," said Max Evangelisti, who lives in an area known as the Forest Edge cluster.

A town home there was hit in early October and a laptop and personal items were stolen.
A search warrant affidavit obtained by News4 shows police later learned that laptop was sold the next day on Craigslist by a man who identified himself as Daniel Stanley.
Then in early November, another laptop stolen from an apartment, turned up at a Fairfax pawn shop. The seller: Daniel Stanley. Police sought search warrants to search Stanley's girlfriend's home and car. She has not been charged.
Stanley is jailed in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
