A judge in Rockville Circuit Court ruled on Tuesday that Brittany Norwood's trial in the murder of her coworker Jayna Murray will proceed as scheduled.
Norwood's defense team had argued that Norwood should be held not criminally responsible because she had a mental illness. Her lawyers requested a delay to allow time for a mental health expert to review her mental competency.
A psychiatrist, testifying on Tuesday for the defense, told the court Norwood had a major, but unspecified mental illness.
The prosecution said Norwood was mentally competent enough to plan and execute the murder of Jayna Murray.
The judge ruled there was not enough evidence to postpone for another three months. Norwood's trial will proceed on October 24.
