Apparent human remains were found encased in concrete in a refrigerator behind an apartment building in Northeast D.C. Friday morning, law enforcement sources tell News4.
Police were called to a home in the 4300 block of Brooks Street NE at about 11:45 a.m. after construction workers noticed a smell, according to preliminary reports.
Officers arrived and found the remains at the property. News4 video shows investigators at a multifamily building.
Investigators focused their attention on a large commercial dumpster. They later covered it with a blue tarp.

The remains were taken to the D.C. medical examiner's office where an official cause of death will be determined.
A death investigation is underway. No information was immediately released on any arrests or suspects.
The building currently is occupied by only a few people, according to those who live there.
