Guess Who's Coming to Twitter?

Followers wait with bated breath

The man who's a heartbeat away from the presidency is now on Twitter.

You can follow Vice President Joe Biden @vp.

Some of Biden's statements, or misstatements, have become legendary.

Beyond his open mic congratulations of President Barack Obama signing the health care bill, the vice president encouraged a man in a wheelchair to stand up and offered consolation to the Irish prime minister over the death of his mother, who was actually still alive. He's called Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens "Justice Stewart," and then there was the infamous three-letter-word he spelled out for us:  J-O-B-S. A lot of retweet potential @vp.

Biden sent his first tweet yesterday, wishing Americans a happy Independence Day and asking us to think about our troops and military families.

The vice president's staff will use his account to keep followers up to speed on the happenings in his office, and they're promising some behind-the-scenes looks at the life of the veep.

So far, he's got more than 14,000 followers but he's following no one.

Whether we'll see any "Bidenisms," as the gaffes are called on the Internet, in 140 characters or less remains to be seen.
