José Andrés, a D.C.-area chef and restaurateur, will reopen a restaurant serving American fare in the Georgetown building previously occupied by the popular BBQ joint Old Glory.
Old Glory suddenly closed Sunday, when customers were notified by a sign displayed on the restaurant and posted to the website PoPville.
Andrés' restaurant America Eats Tavern is set to take over the space in early summer, a spokesman for Andrés' restaurant company ThinkFoodGroup said.
It won't be the first iteration of the concept, which will feature local meats, oysters, blue crabs, wines, cheese and other mid-Atlantic products, a press release said.
America Eats Tavern launched in 2011 as a pop-up in collaboration with the Foundation for the National Archives, which aimed to highlight American culinary history.
The restaurant then moved to Tysons Corner, but that location is now closed.

Old Glory was open for 26 years before the decision was made Sunday to close, the sign posted on the restaurant said.
"We made the extremely tough and sad decision to close Old Glory BBQ for good," the sign said.
Capital Restaurant Group, which operated Old Glory, did not return immediately a request for comment.
