Police: George Mason University Student Who Died May Have Taken Drug

Editor's Note: A previous version of this story erroneously reported the student died of an overdose. The exact cause of the student's death is still unknown.

George Mason University said a student who died may have been high on a drug when he ran through a fifth-floor window and fell to the ground.

Students told police the 19-year-old student was on a "hallucinogenic substance" when he ran through the window at the Potomac Heights Residence Hall, a university spokesperson said.

Officers arrived and found him on the ground about 4:45 p.m. The sophomore student was still alive but wasn't responding, the university spokesperson said.

Medics took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the spokesperson.

Investigators said no foul play was suspected, but they were told other students may have the same substance in their possession and could be at risk.

The university maintains a medical amnesty program. If a student has taken the substance and fears for their safety, they can contact the school’s police department for help.

The student has not been identified.
