A former D.C. police officer has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for stealing her brother's identity and taking out loans in his name.
Jamell Stallings, 46, added her name to her brother's bank account, took out a $5,000 loan with her brother's name and social security number, and even faked a W2 from her brother to help get the loan.
She also used her brother’s name to take out a $13,000 automobile loan -- money that she then deposited in her own bank account and then used to pay off her own car.
“Police officers take an oath to serve and protect the citizens of the jurisdictions in which they work,” said Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks.
“Ms. Stallings not only violated that oath, she went even lower by taking advantage of her own brother to live a lavish lifestyle. Her selfishness has caught up with her and she will now have time to reflect upon her poor judgment.”
In addition to jail time, Stallings must complete 500 hours of community service, serve five years of supervised probation and enter a treatment program to deal with her gambling addiction.
