Firefighters Injured, Owner Away at Funeral When House Burns

Fire destroys home while the family attends funeral. News4’s Darcy Spencer reports.

The home of a family that was away at a funeral burned Saturday afternoon, injuring two firefighters who were battling the blaze.

Around 1:30 p.m., firefighters were called to a house in the 3800 block of Endicott Place, in Springdale, Maryland. The top two floors and roof were on fire when they arrived.

The house was unoccupied, because the woman who owned the home was attending her husband’s funeral. Two firefighters were taken to the hospital with injuries.

Spokesman Mark Brady said one firefighter is hospitalized with burns at the Medstar Burn Unit. A second firefighter was treated and released after receiving an electrical shock.

Investigators have not determined a cause of the fire.
