A former Fairfax County Police Public Information Officer who has been charged with possession of child pornography has been released on bond.
William "Bud" Walker was released from a detention center Friday, Fairfax police said.
Chief of Police Colonel Edwin Roessler Jr. accepted Walker's resignation Friday, effective immediately.
Walker's bond was set at $15,000. His attorney asked for a lower bond of $5,000 and argued Walker was not a danger to himself or others; was a longtime resident and county employee; and had been married for 20 years, News4's Julie Carey reports. Walker's wife and two other friends or family were in court to show support.
At the prosecutor's request, Walker will not be allowed to have unsupervised contact with children and will be barred from using computers.
Fairfax police arrested Walker Wednesday and charged him with two counts of possession of child pornography.
Detectives received a tip after a social media website contacted the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The social media website said a person in a Fairfax residence uploaded child pornography through its servers. Investigators then determined the child pornography came from Walker's residence.
