A woman working at a gas station in Northeast D.C. was shot by a man during a disagreement, authorities say.
The woman was shot just before midnight Wednesday during the woman's shift at the Exxon at 1396 Florida Ave NE. A man at the gas station was having trouble using the ATM.
The woman was shot through the cash transfer tray that's attached to the store, according to police.
The woman's brother, who also works at the gas station, said his sister has trouble speaking English and the customer and his sister couldn't communicate well.

The situation escalated to the point where the woman called her brother to let him know what was going on. Then, the brother got a call from police, who told him his sister had been shot. Her brother said she was shot in the shoulder.
The shooting victim was conscious and breathing and was taken to a hospital, police said. She was critically injured.

Police are still searching for the suspect.
The victim, Rhama Nurey, recently moved to the country from Eritrea and has a 5-month-old baby.
