A 21-year-old man was killed in a fiery crash in Silver Spring Wednesday morning.

Mohammed Shafiq Khan was traveling south on Gist Avenue when his car left the road and struck a tree just after midnight. Police say the 2012 Volkswagen Passat caught fire, trapping Khan inside.

Khan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Khan's aunt and uncle told News4's Molette Green that their nephew fixed dinner for his parents Tuesday night and left to run an errand at a nearby convenience store.

It's not clear what caused his car to crash.

The crash is under investigation.
